MHOX’s Carapace Vidiam and Collagene masks on display at Scale7

The 3d printed masks created by MHOX (Filippo Nassetti & Alessandro Zomparelli), Carapace Vidiam and Collagene, are currently on display in Qatar, Doha, during Scale7 event (10-15 March 2023, Msheireb Downtown, M7 building).

The masks were manufactured by CRP Technology using industrial 3D printing and Windform LX 2.0 (now replaced by the 3.0 version) Glass fiber reinforced composite material.

These objects are an example of generative, customized face masks with highly complex geometries, ready to be wear and with no risk of breakings or deformations, thanks to the mechanical properties of the Windform.

Scale7 is the first Fashion & Design business incubator in Qatar. It was founded to serve as a platform to promote, develop and foster the creative industry in the country. Scale7 is a space where designers, entrepreneurs, and startups can find not only support but also inspiration on their journey towards becoming recognized, commercially viable brands.

Enabling Qatar to position itself as a major Fashion & Design hub, and ultimately contributing to the diversification of the local economy, are the main pillars on which Scale7 was established.

The founders say, “In our maker-oriented Scale7 Labs companies and individuals can access digital fabrication and craft tools to practise multidisciplinary work in a hands-on environment. Scale7 Labs is the central location in Doha where to meet the most interesting brands creating innovative products and services. Additionally, we provide networking and learning opportunities locally and abroad.”

Alessandro Zomparelli says: “The workshop at Scale7 ended successfully. It was interesting to deal with a rapidly accelerating reality with many designers fascinated by the combination of fashion and technology, in particular the use of 3D printing. There are obviously many possibilities, but it is important that designers understand the implications it entails, understood both as constraints, but above all as opportunities.

During the workshop we had the opportunity to work with mesh modules wedged with each other in order to be able to wear the 3D-printed objects. We also worked with Blender, an open-source modeling software, which offers very interesting tools for creatives approaching 3D printing.”
