Advanced Manufacturing Solutions for High-Performance Robotics Applications

High-Performance Robotic Components
From Functional Prototype to Ready-to-Use Batches

High-DOF robotic platforms and unmanned ground vehicles present a unique manufacturing challenge – one that highlights CRP Group’s distinctive expertise. These systems require components that combine lightweight, topology-optimized geometries (for minimal mass) with precision mechanical features (such as threaded inserts, metal bearing seats, and tight-tolerance interfaces) that standard 3D-printed composite surfaces cannot achieve alone.

We overcome this challenge by integrating additive and subtractive technologies in a seamless workflow: SLS 3D printing with Windform® composites and CNC finishing for complex, lightweight structures; 5-axis CNC milling, CNC turning with live tooling, DMLS and Rapid Sand Casting + CNC finishing, to add high-tolerance mechanical features and for durable, lightweight metal parts.

This hybrid approach enables us to deliver complete robotic components – from single prototypes to small, medium batches – with a single supplier managing both structural and precision phases, ensuring consistency, speed, and performance.

Engineering Robotic Performance Through Advanced Manufacturing

How CRP's integrated capabilities solve the toughest robotics challenges

Metals for Structural Integrity

CRP Group achieves tolerances as tight as ±0.005 mm through DMLS, High Precision 5 Axis CNC Milling, wire EDM, and lapping. Applications include humanoid lower talus in titanium, hydraulic cylinders in Al 7075-T6 (±5 µm), and foot structures in Scalmalloy® – with wall thicknesses down to 1.5 mm stabilized during machining by customized support jig.

Additive Manufacturing for Functional Integration

CRP Group combines DMLS with CNC finishing for topology-optimised metal structures – delivering hybrid assemblies with mounting precision of ±0.01 mm.

For polymer parts requiring electrical insulation, vibration damping, or minimal weight, Windform® SLS composites serve applications from end-of-arm tooling to wiring integration. For legged locomotion, cobots, and inspection platforms, organic geometries and thermal resilience in actuator zones are addressable within the same workflow.

High-Performance Manufacturing for Intelligent Systems

From autonomous platforms to intelligent industrial systems, next-generation robotics requires uncompromising accuracy, durability, and motion control. CRP Group’s Design and Engineering Team works alongside robotics developers as a consultancy partner – providing guidance on fixturing strategies, tooling, material selection, and process sequencing to identify the optimal manufacturing approach for each part, whether metal, composite, or hybrid.
